Update
Day 14: I’ve been deep in the trenches—laying the groundwork for the site, mobile app, analytics, and a constellation of other behind-the-scenes magic.
In the chaos of creation, it’s easy to forget how far we’ve come. So let’s pause, take a breath, and honor the work. Here’s a lovely little list of victories—proof that yes, we are moving forward, even if the road is winding.
- Domain
- Servers to host our backend
- Security, legal, and GRRP setup
- Repository setup to be open-sourced
- Tooling around development
- WebSite
- Start of a Mobile App
- Fixed bugs and learn a lot of new stuff
- Making icon and assets
- Setup a waiting list
- Add social media links or not
Reflections
At the heart of society, we sometimes forget that we are more alike then we want to admit. Don’t forget we are all surviving and trying to have purpose even if we are on top.
At the heart of community, we sometimes forget that we share the same needs. We want to be seen, we want to be understood and appreciated, we are human in all its glory and disgust. We are scared and not perfect. We have the same worries as others.
We want to make a living, but also be true to our mission and goals—but sometimes this works against us. We compromise, play games, hide ourselves, just to survive. What if we could ask ourselves what it is we want to do, love to do, or want to try doing? Our “Do”s.
This isn’t about a corporate philosophy of profit, scale, or efficiency. It’s about figuring out how to distribute resources equitably. But how can we achieve that when each of us wants everything—the power, what it does for us? We must focus on the “do’s” that spring from our connection with others & community, not those strategies born of winning a zero some game.
We need to remember: To survive, we need each other. The world is too complex nowadays, and it’s easy to forget. But we will not achieve much long-term if we overstep, take, hurt, or always put ourselves first. Eventually, you become the one everyone is happy to take from, or rooting for your demise. Then it’s just a waiting game. The higher the fall, the more painful it is.
Do you want to be that person?
Let’s turn the page. What if we could find “Do”s that truly build prosperity for all? To do that, we must pursue the “Do”s we want—or are okay doing for others—knowing it’s balanced. More on this later.
We then need a place to perform our “Do”s and find community in the process. Just like in the natural world, species that are diverse can adapt and survive only if they are equipped with the power to respond and the necessary planning to protect the tribe. Whether it’s an anthill, a pride of lions, or a forest of trees—you need the skills (the more diversity, the better) and you need planning (the further ahead you can see, the better).
This App and site will be all about a place to build a platform to embody this vision!
or maybe something else next week ;)
We need to remember: That means making sure the bad actors don’t get invited into the group. Equity is so much more than diversity it seeing and nurturing survival. As a species if you do not have diversity you are the first to become an extinct.
Guiding Principles (v0.0.1)
So let’s stop playing survival games, hiding our values, or chasing profit for its own sake.
Instead, we will:
1. Choose our “Do’s.”
Pursue the work we love, the experiments we’re curious about, and the skills we’re eager to share.
2. Build shared prosperity.
Design systems that distribute resources and decision-making fairly, because lasting success is collective.
3. Guard the circle.
Welcome collaborators who give as much as they take, and keep out actors who exploit or diminish others.
4. Measure balance, not scale.
Growth matters only when it lifts everyone involved—people, planet, and future generations.
